Ride History
El Toro opened in 2006 using the old Viper roller coaster
station that was removed in 2005. El Toro became Six Flag Great Adventure second
wooden coaster alongside the dual-racing wooden coaster Rolling Thunder. At the
end of 2013, El Toro became Six Flags Great Adventure’s only wooden coast with
the removal of the timeless classic Rolling Thunder (1976-2013). El Toro
replaced the old Viper (1995-2005) roller coaster in 2005. Viper had built in
the area that once occupied Ultra Twister (1986-1989). Along with Viper, the
Taz Tornado (Rotor) ride by the bridge, and the Rodeo Stampede (moved to Six
Flags Over Texas), and last the Tweety Carousel (moved to the newly created Bug
Bunny National Park) were removed as well.
El Toro was the first Intamin prefabricated roller coaster in North
America. El Toro quickly became a favorite placing it in the top 3 best wooden
coaster since 2006.
