dispatches the boat from the station into the trough. The boat moves with the current of the water
throughout the course of the ride. Guests will get wet.
Ride History
Congo Rapids or Roaring Rapids first opened in 1981. The
Roaring Rapids design had expanded and improved the original Astroworld Thunder
Rapids ride at Six Flags Astroworld by installing 2 wave makers and a longer
course with larger rapids. Geysers were added in 1982. In 1991, the ride’s
section underwent a change and the Roaring Rapids ride was renamed Congo
Rapids. Through the course of its life the wave makers and geysers were removed
and a track layout was added as a guide for the boats. At the end of 2013,
Congo had its dual station redesigned to make way for a new system of a
continue motion belt for the boats to be dispatched.
